The Beauty of Alpine Chalets
The word “Alpine” simply means having to do with high mountain elevations—specifically, the Alps. In Europe, the Alpine states are the countries bordering the Alps, and include Austria, France, Italy, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Slovenia, Switzerland, and Germany. As the resort founders are originally from Germany, it seemed natural to design Alpine chalets reminiscent of home.
Alpine chalet design
An Alpine style uses the elements of Alpine construction popularized in Europe. In general, Alpine style features some combination of wood construction, natural materials, and warm colours drawn from nature. The original Alpine chalets, built to protect shepherds from the elements while tending their flocks on the high, cold mountain peaks, had solid-timber wooden walls and stone floors. That aesthetic is reflected in modern Alpine design.
The log homes and Alpine chalet suites at the resort feature all-wood construction, including floors, for warmth and comfort. The high, peaked roofs and vaulted windows give the impression that the chalet was plucked off the Alps and repositioned in beautiful Clearwater, BC. The rich golden tones of the walls evoke the traditional pine wall construction of European chalets.
Naturally we combine this historic atmosphere with modern amenities. The log suites and chalets feature full bathrooms with a combination tub and shower, coffee/tea facilities, and patio. Some chalets come with a full kitchen as well. Our guests feel cozy and comfortable when they stay in one of our modern yet rustic Alpine chalets.
